Such as the "gay" joke in Picasso or The Boss telling someone to shut up while teaching the method of Coin Bend. What I really like about THE BOSS's dvd's is that they are entertaining, yet informal and there are NO pretensions at all. No fancy production values, et cetera. As one person here has mentioned (I believe it was Mr. Domapias?), there are also those particular routines that do NOT require knucklebusting action or tons of testosterone to practice and perform. My favorite effects are the RR Invisible Palm, it's almost like mocking a backpalm a pivot or I dunno what it was called - a Roy Benson acquitment probably. The Boss said that his own handlings of the effect were discovered by accident when doing a certain move. Taking care to be a little restrained in writing my thoughts here, I won't name that sleight for now. Also the RAYTRIX - of course. The highlight of the dvd, it's a work of creativity and genius, yet it's very simple, direct and concise. No "misdirectious" matrix moves just making the coins vanish and reappear under the card. By the way, at some point, I think there was a use of the "Melon-Seed sleight" vanish? Most of the individual moves in the routine itself can be studied in J.B. Bobo's Modern Coin Magic by the way, so I recommend you get that..... but on the other hand, by getting this DVD you're already expected to know most of the sleights in magic as I said as entertaining as it is, it is also candid and informal a neophyte in the art might ask what on earth is a topit or an Erdnase Color Change? But to the one who has been into the art for some time, he can truly appreciate the creativity, the genius and the charm and showmanship of THE BOSS. Raytrix is definitely Grade A+ material. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cyssa (FSM member) source: FSM Forum Feb 28, 2006, 10:10pm ------- I still remember the boss telling us that “simple hits hard” every now and then. This shows in his RAYTRIX DVD, which Schwarzeine and I just obtained due to sir rannie’s kindness. ^^ To sum the whole DVD up, it had been very informative and entertaining. Informative, in the sense that the teaching method shown by sir rannie is quite, in my opinion, reminiscent of Brad Christian: direct to the point, straight, and simple. Other suggestions are given for the student to do the trick in an undemanding, more comfortable manner, since what fits one may not fit the other. It’s also quite unconventional in a good way... The performances itself give us ideas on how we could deliver it to other people w/o being cheesy, or dumbstruck. Sir rannie’s showmanship is superb! Those who
want to learn more should obtain a copy of Sir Rannie’s Raytrix! |
